Each year, selection committees select Florida tourism leaders to receive this award-winning recognition. The awards were presented at the annual Chairman’s Dinner, part of the Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Orlando, FL.
This year’s event was held in conjunction with FLORIDA’s 2023 Tourism Governor’s Conference. Florida’s 2023 Tourism Hall of Fame inductee, Tony Lapi, started his career in hospitality in 1976 when he moved to Sanibel Island with his wife Angie from Rochester, NY.
In October of that year, he, along with several partners, bought the Tween Waters Inn, which at the time had 47 cottages and a small marina, as well as a modest restaurant. At the time, Captiva had only a handful of winter visitors and the summer season was very slow.
